Bromomethane

Bromomethane is a synthetic pesticide used in agriculture. It can contaminate water through runoff. Exposure causes nervous system damage and other toxic effects.

Bromomethane, also known as methyl bromide, is a colorless, odorless gas used as a soil fumigant in agriculture. It can enter drinking water through agricultural runoff or industrial discharge. Measured in parts per billion (ppb), bromomethane was largely phased out in the US by 2005 due to its ozone-depleting properties. While its use is now restricted, historical contamination may persist in some water sources. Exposure can potentially lead to neurological and respiratory issues.
