2,4,5-TP
2,4,5-TP (Silvex) is a banned herbicide that can contaminate water through agricultural runoff. It was used for weed control but prohibited due to health risks.
2,4,5-TP, also known as Silvex, was widely used as an herbicide from the 1940s until its ban in 1985. It was a component of Agent Orange, used during the Vietnam War. This persistent chemical can contaminate water sources through agricultural runoff or improper disposal of old stocks. Water utilities measure 2,4,5-TP in parts per billion (ppb). While no longer in use, its environmental persistence means it may still be detected in some water supplies.
